Pavers vs. Poured Concrete
| Material | Cost per Sq Ft (Installed) | Repair Approach |
|---|---|---|
| Poured concrete | $8 – $15 | Full slab repair/replacement |
| Pavers | $15 – $30 | Individual paver replacement |
Pavers cost more upfront, but Florida's shifting sandy soils and occasional settling make the individual-unit repair advantage meaningful — a sunken paver can be pulled and reset in an afternoon, versus breaking out and repouring a section of concrete slab.
Sealing & Maintenance
Paver sealing is typically recommended every 2-3 years in Florida's climate to protect against UV fading, mildew growth (common given humidity), and joint-sand erosion from heavy rain. Sealing cost generally runs $1-$3 per square foot.
Driveway-Specific Considerations
Driveways see more load-bearing stress than patios, which means base preparation (compacted gravel base depth) matters more for long-term performance. Skimping on base prep is the most common cause of paver driveway settling and unevenness we get called to fix.
"Base prep is the part nobody sees and the part that determines whether your driveway looks good in year one or year ten. It's not where I'd ever suggest cutting corners."
